XXIII OPEV - Competition for secondary school teams – reflections

The XXIII National Financial Case Study Competition (OPEV) marked a historic shift by allowing secondary school teams to participate for the first time.

This groundbreaking innovation was met with widespread acclaim, showcasing a natural and revolutionary evolution in the competition's structure.The event's organization was spearheaded by Győr technical schools, and nine teams from four different towns participated.The competition's high caliber was evident in the students' meticulous research and presentations, which frequently matched the level of university students. The jury commended the teams' analytical and presentation skills, with particular praise directed towards their professionalism and educational aptitude.For the participants, the competition presented an invigorating challenge, though some expressed concerns about the time constraints.In light of the competition's success, several teams have expressed their intention to participate next year, and numerous students are contemplating further studies at Széchenyi István University, inspired by their experiences.

In the future, the organisers will pay even more attention to ensuring that the case studies are sufficiently challenging, while the tasks will be tailored even more closely to the needs of secondary school students. The jury remains committed to an educational approach, as providing a positive experience and fostering a supportive attitude is of paramount importance alongside professional development.
